NESCol course: HND Communication with Media
RGU course: BA (Hons) Public Relations
Current role: Marketing Executive, Scottish Slimmers

Why did you choose the Degree Link Route?

The Communication with Media course really impressed me with the range of modules it had on the curriculum. At the time I was unsure of the route I wanted to go down with my career, whether it would be PR, Advertising or Journalism and the course really helped me make an informed decision and gave me the practical skills I would later find great use for in the working world.

What's been the best thing about the experience?

The skills I have gained during my time at both NESCol and RGU have been invaluable to my career, particularly the work experience it has led to. The RGU Public Relations course offers students in their third year the opportunity to take part in work experience as a core module, which has to have been my favourite part of study; it really helped me get to grips with the industry and the way journalism and PR work together.

What was the best thing about studying at NESCol?

Going straight from 5th year at school to a college or university was a particularly daunting prospect for me as everyone I had been in a class with previously I had known for years, but the environment at NESCol is so inviting and the lecturers in particular help tremendously to make you feel at ease.

What's the best thing about studying at RGU?

The variety of theoretical and practical modules is struck perfectly in third and fourth year. Some allowed you to work with external companies and gain hands-on experience, which were a nice contrast to exam and research based topics – the balance was fantastic and helped give a great and well-rounded university experience.

Would you recommend Degree Link to other students? Why?

Yes, particularly for school leavers who find the prospect of jumping straight into university courses a bit daunting. It is a great way to ease into study and help you make a more informed decision about your future.
